Republican U.S. Sen. Rand Paul says he is not ruling out running for the presidency in 2012 if his father decides not to make another bid for the White House.Wow.
Paul told The Associated Press in an interview Thursday that he is being urged by supporters in several states to make a run if his father, Republican U.S. Rep. Ron Paul of Texas, skips the 2012 election.
Paul said his father, who ran in 2008, has not yet made up his mind and they've talked about it indirectly. The freshman senator, a tea party sensation, said the only decision he has made is he will not run against his father.
If I remember correctly, one of the most prevalent criticisms of then-candidate Barack Obama in the 2008 election was that he was a one-term Senator. I think that Rand Paul would be a great candidate, but he was just elected to the Senate in 2010 -- not even six months ago.
Still, having a voice like Paul's (Rand OR Ron) amongst the prospective GOP nominees would be nice.
