Last weekend, I was a tourist in my own city of Philadelphia! A good friend of mine and I decided to head into "Old City" and go to the new Constitution Center and the old Independence Hall and enjoy what our city has to offer (PS - I highly recommend doing this in your own city/town... there is so much history in this country). At the Constitution Center, you can see a film/live presentation called 'Freedom Rising' which almost brought tears to my eyes. Tears of strength. Tears of pride. Tears of patriotism. When you see what this country has done in the short 250+ years of existence... it truly does let us say we are the greatest country in the world (despite what my liberal friends say in trying to make America out to be a "downright mean country").
The reason I am so proud of this country is the EXACT opposite of what is happening in this country right now. I am proud of this country because in the face of tyranny we have stood up and said "NO". We said no to King George. We said no to slavery. We said no to Hitler. We said no to Hussein. What does the Democratic administration want us to believe? That there is no evil in the world. That we can talk it over (imprisoned journalists coming back to America does not show that negotiating works) with nutjobs like Osama, Il and the President of Iran. That America is "arrogant".
I am proud of this country because it was built on hard work and earned success. Right now, our country gives handouts to people who have not finished school and who are ok with being mediocre in life rather than those who have tried to get a good job, worked hard and gave it their all. We give bailouts to companies who have FAILED in the free market system. We are increasing taxes on those who have succeeded in their life through hard work and/or skill to give more handouts to those who may not even have a job. What would our founders have thought about a country that has perverted these freedoms?
I am proud of this country because we have believed in capitalism and its people rather than government. We now have a President who is for a single payer health care system and is trying to push through legislation of over 1,000 pages (of which Senator Arlen Specter and others admit they never read) that will use up more than 1/7 of our GDP when poll after poll shows the American people do not want a government universal healthcare plan and are happy with their current healthcare.
We do NOT need ANOTHER government program. Medicare is bankrupt. Medicaid is bankrupt. Social Security is soon to be bankrupt. The Post Office is bankrupt. Our education system is broken. And we should trust this Congress and this administration to now take care of US and OUR HEALTH! What happened to the freedom for people to choose their healthcare? For you kool-aid drinkers who believe that there will still be a private and public insurance sector after 5-10 years with government subsidizing the costs and businesses cutting health care benefits because the government will pay it for them... I have some more kool-aid in my fridge for you from Obama/Biden.
I encourage you all to take a trip to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and learn what went into drafting the Constitution and Declaration... these men were geniuses. And more often than not... they sided on the smaller government/states rights rather than a King George style government. Or should I say King Obama style government? Unlike Michelle Obama... I have always been proud to be an American and I will never be prouder than when we vote for the American and not the American Government.
