Florida, Michigan & The DNC

I was over at the reader forum at a post on FirstRead and some commenters are insisting that Barack Obama is obstructing a re-vote in Florida and Michigan. So naturally, I added my thoughts:

Can someone please explain to me how Senator Obama is "obstructing" a re-vote in FL & MI? I'm honestly asking - no snarkiness intended.

These states clearly violated DNC rules and unless a compromise is reached, delegates will not be seated at convention.

I don't understand why so many people are up-in-arms over this. Regardless of your opinion of Howard Dean, he made it perfectly clear that FL & MI broke the rules. THEY. BROKE. THE. RULES. Period. End of story.

The mere fact that the DNC and the two remaining candidates are willing to work with two rule-breaking states is a good thing. I hope they come to some sort of agreement. I really do.

I must say that I feel bad for the voters of the aforementioned rule-breaking-states. The moronic decisions of a few people in power are putting the many people not in power at a disadvantage.

Shameful.

Jesus how about all the people who broke the law. Periood end of story? Cheeny Bush, Scooter!

You saying rules are more importent then Laws?

Don't forget ATT Bush insist on retoactive protection for ATT from breaking the law!

Lots of anonymity on this one, eh folks?

I think that you are missing the greater point here Anonymous - I have NO LOVE for the Bush administration and it's carelessness in running our country (and now other countries as well).

Laws were indeed broken in some cases, but that is not what this post was about. If you read the subject line, "Florida, Michigand & The DNC", I think that it's pretty clear that I'm talking specifically about the Democratic primary. At no point have I suggested that "rules are more important than laws".

I'm unsure where the Bush administration's law-breaking-asses fit into that picture... but I digress.

Look, I'm as pissed off about Bush and his cronies as you are, this is why I'm putting extra scrutiny on our presidential candidates during this primary.

I'm on your team Anonymous. I'm with you. Relax.

I was just trying to put a little emphases that “breaking the rules .Period” was too strong as rules, and laws are broken everyday by lots of people. My real feeling about this is that The people in Mi and Fl are getting screwed by the bigwigs (DNC, Mi or Fl State reps doesn't matter who, they should be talking to each other.) and being disfranchised as far as the primary vote is concerned. I live in Florida and I voted, that was my civic duty. Now because some grown-ups?? are fighting my vote doesn't count, Not my problem I voted. Who doesn't want to count my vote? Hell with them maybe we should not have voted, guess I shouldn't waste my time voting again.

Thanks for the clarification. I really appreciate it.

I completely agree with you that this whole deal is a sham. As I understand it, Howard Dean, Chairman of the DNC, warned FL and MI that if they moved their (your) primary election dates forward into January, that the votes (your votes) would not count.

And yet, the "grown ups" (as you correctly put it) went ahead as planned - screwing the voters in the process.

It royally sucks and I feel bad for voters in your state and Michigan.

Thanks for the comments. Please feel free to come back!
