A lot has been made about Barack Obama's comments yesterday that he supports "age-appropriate sex-education for kindergarten students".
Joe Scarborough was saying that anyone who believes that young children should have sex-education is committing political suicide.
I'm not sure I agree.
Look, I'm not going to suggest that my four-year-old son needs to be told the itty-bitty-details of sexual intercourse. However, he has already asked the Wife and me "where do babies come from?" Giving him some facts about the science of the issue is not a bad thing.
I also think that people should read - in depth - the full article at ABC News. Obama makes his point clear: Nobody's suggesting that kindergartners are going to be getting information about sex in the way that we think about it. If they ask a teacher 'where do babies come from,' that providing information that the fact is that it's not a stork is probably not an unhealthy thing. Although again, that's going to be determined on a case by case basis by local communities and local school boards.
Wow, he almost sounds like a Libertarian with the 'ocal communities and school boards comment. Nice.
People who are so adamantly against groups like Planned Parenthood should just relax. Obama is NOT suggesting that we should be handing condoms out to pre-schoolers.
Duh.
