Mo' Vitter Blues Redux

Okay gang, I'm not going to harp on this subject - but I do have something more to say about David Vitter (R-La). Before I get into this I must say that I truly do feel badly for Vitter's family. I can only imagine what it must be like to have negative media coverage - and reporters constantly following you around. That said...

I was watching Morning Joe on MSNBC this morning and Joe Scarborough was defending Vitter...errr, somewhat anyway.

Basically, Scarborough was saying that just because Vitter allegedly had seen a prostitute, that didn't make him a bad person (as it turns out, Joe actually knows David Vitter as they both served in the House at the same time). Joe's logic was that we are all hypocritical now and then - and that we all "fall short of the glory of God" (yeah, he actually said that).

While I do see Scarborough's point - and agree with him - this scandal goes beyond simple hypocrisy.

David Vitter is a conservative. BUT, he's not a "live & let live" conservative (like some others out there). Vitter campaigned for his seat in the Senate on 'family values'. He campaigned for his seat in the House of Representatives on 'family values'. He was and IS a 'family values' politician.

So, when a 'family values' politician like Vitter appears to have strayed from said values - that not only makes him a hypocrite - it makes him a liar and someone who owes all of those that he attacked a very public apology.

This is a real outrage. The Hollywood left is redefining the most basic institution in human history, and our two U.S. Senators won’t do anything about it.

We need a U.S. Senator who will stand up for Louisiana values, not Massachusetts’s values. I am the only Senate Candidate to coauthor the Federal Marriage Amendment; the only one fighting for its passage. I am the only candidate proposing changes to the senate rules to stop liberal obstructionists from preventing an up or down vote on issues like this, judges, energy, and on and on.
So, in that one quote - which I pulled straight from his 2004 campaign website - whom did Vitter offend? People in Hollywood. Homosexuals. Residents of Massachusetts. And, I guess, 'liberal obstructionsists'... whomever they are.
NOTE:: By the way - if you want to see more Vitter, check out his campaign media page. Act fast, I don't know how long it's going to be up.

Anyway, the bottom line is this folks: Vitter is a hypocrite. Sure, we all make mistakes in our lives - both sexually and non-sexually (I prefer the latter). However, when someone bases their career in politics on living a 'wholesome', 'family values' lifestyle - and then turns out to be contradicting themselves - they should be called on it. And, they should be held accountable by their constituency.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that Vitter will likely LOSE his re-election bid in 2010 - if he does indeed run for re-election.

That's the last you'll see me write of David B. Vitter, Republican from Louisiana.
